Jetsetting Poodles and Grand Touring Kittens: Animal Health Certificates and Fit for Flight
Some things shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Animal Health Certificates (AHCs) are one of those things. At Snoots we believe that you and your pet should be able to roam around without being burdened by AHCs that sometimes cost as much as £350. That's why we initiated an internal project to allow our members to get unlimited access to AHCs included with their membership. This is especially important if you're one of our many customers who travel abroad more than once a year. The savings on AHCs alone pays for the membership. We are here to help!
Traveling with your pet can be an exciting adventure, but it requires careful planning and preparation, especially when it comes to their health and legal requirements. Here’s how to ensure a smooth journey for you and your furry companion, focusing on the Animal Health Certificates and Fit to Fly certificates.
1. Understanding the Paperwork
Before jet-setting with your pet, you need to understand the documents required.
- Animal Health Certificate (AHC):
This certifies that your pet is healthy and fit for travel. It must be issued by an official veterinarian.
- Fit to Fly Certificate:
Often required by airlines, this document confirms that your pet is safe to travel by air.
2. Understanding What you Need for Travel:
-Rabies vaccination:
Your pet has to have updated rabies vaccines, administered at least 21 days prior to travel.
-Worming Vaccination:
For some countries, you're required to have worming medication, and the associated papers before entering.
-Microchipping:
Pets that travel on AHCs need to be microchipped.
3. Filling out the Form
Before you visit us, you'll fill out the form that tells us all the information we need about the pet and your travel plans. This allows us to make the visit a breeze for you, and for us.
4. Pre-Travel Veterinary Visit
You bring the pet to us, and we verify that they're healthy and we scan their chip.
5. Preparing for the Journey
Traveling can be stressful for pets, so proper preparation is key:
- Carrier training: Familiarize your pet with their travel carrier to reduce travel anxiety.
